had just turned 31; a year I’ll never forget. I was diagnosed with Lyme disease then two months later, my 27-year-old cousin was killed in a car accident from a distracted driver. A month later, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis.

I was in so much pain. Whether it was from the Lyme disease, Rheumatoid arthritis or just being depressed from losing my first best friend. I just couldn’t keep up anymore with all these new treatments, doctors and constantly having to get my blood drawn. My medical bills kept adding up and I was flat out exhausted. I wanted to give up.

However, my new guardian angel had other plans for me. My cousin and I always joked we would be the “old maids” of the family. That had also been the year that I met the love of my life.  I had been casually dating someone but for whatever reason, we ‘went our separate ways’ a day after her funeral. I was so miserable but it only took 3 months for me to meet my new best friend, my love and biggest supporter.

I absolutely know that my angel cousin led me to him. Everyday I thank HER for leading me to him. He supports me when I’m feeling anxious. He’s invested in tools and ways for me to open a jar, turn on a lamp, carry things from the car to inside. He understands that when I have a flare up, I cannot do such things. He understands that when I’m crabby because I’m in pain.

Every day I thank the Lord for what He has given me. For all of my life lessons, I am to be grateful. I still can’t decide if that year was the best year of my life or the worst year of my life but what I do know is that I learned so much from that year.
