Believe – Migraines

When people talk about how they feel I always believe them. If they say they feel bad or if whatever condition they have makes their life difficult, I would believe them. The reason for this is simple. When the roles are reversed I would want them to believe me. Migraines are terrible but the main problem with them is that they are invisible. You cant see it happening from an outside perspective. Sure, you can see the pain on someone’s face but you can’t see what’s going on inside their head.

So when someone says that you don’t look too bad while having a Migraine, they simply don’t know. Either because they have never had a migraine themselves or maybe they just don’t have ones as severe.

Migraines can literally stop you from doing whatever it is you were doing. Sometimes the Aura is just so bad you have difficulty seeing or sometimes the pain is so much that you can’t concentrate enough on other motor functions. But once again these symptoms are not visible so are hard to grasp from an outside view.

The key to get people to believe our pain is that we believe theirs. Lets stop doubting other people’s pain because we simply are not in their shoes so we can’t know with certainty.
