If I had a dime for everything people have told me about Fibromyalgia over the years, I would be a millionaire by now. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia when much wasn’t know about this invisible disease, so I had to deal with every arm-chair diagnoses on the planet.
“I hurt also, I just don’t complain like you do.”
“If you would get more sleep, so and so changed their diet and is doing so much better.”
“Drink more water, you’re not drinking enough.”
Every time I heard one of these, my thoughts were always, “Do these people really think I mean to be this way? Do they think I am just playing some kind of sick game? And do you not think I have gone over all of this with my doctor, who happened to go to school to get their medical degree?” At one point, I got tired of every arm-chair doctor giving me their two cents that I began to avoid people entirely, all kinds of people.
It took time, and help from my therapist, but I have finally started to come around and begin to be more social and outgoing again. So, if my fellow Fibro people out there start to feel like that, please get a therapist – it makes all the difference. They can help you sort out all the anger you start to feel over this dreadful disease and help you cope with all the people who know how to “cure” you!
