I was on the up and coming as a minister in the United Methodist Church. I was also on several community boards while caring for my mom, my sister and her teenage daughter. Oh and did I mention, I am married to Stan and we have two children of our own.

After my diagnosis of MS, I was no longer able to work. Even with Supplemental Security Benefits and disability, our household income has been cut in half. This happened to my husband and I just as our oldest was leaving for college.

We are no longer able to take vacations away nor take trips on the weekend. My health and our finances no longer allow us to travel as we used to.

Stan works long days. Even after working all day, he still comes home ready to cook for us. Did I mention that I can no longer cook for my husband since my diagnosis?

I fundraise and participate in the Walk because I can walk. My sister who also lives with MS has lost her ability to walk and care for herself. She now resides in a nursing home due to her advanced disability from living with MS. Multiple Sclerosis has affected our entire family – not just my sister and I.

As of August 8, 2015, my sister died due to complications from MS.

I know a cure is near. I am grateful to you and your efforts to help us get rid of this unkind disease.
