As a child, I have moved around a lot. I’ve been in several foster homes. My mom was a drug addict and my dad was an abusive alcoholic. They were unfit parents so my aunt and her husband at the time got full custody of me. It only got worse from there. My aunt’s husband did awful things to me.

He would make me stand for hours as punishment, lock me in the attic for hours, make me shower with him while he peed on me. She knew what was going on and never did anything to stop him. I went through this for a couple years. Eventually, someone came to rescue me. Unfortunately, years of therapy haven’t fully solved my problems and they still haunt me to this day. I have a difficult time doing all the things normal people do. I can’t even drive without having a horrible anxiety attack.

I’ve never been able to really make any relationships work. In all honesty, if it wasn’t for my daughter, I would’ve probably ended it all years ago. I’m not normal, and I’m ok with that. I do my best with what I’ve got. I’ve been doing a little better the last few years thanks to my amazing support system. I know the world is a hard place but people like us are stronger than we think, and we will get through this.
