We’ve all had exes who hurt us, and we’ve all done things to either cope with the pain or help us forget that we ever met.

How to deal with someone diagnosed with a borderline personality disorder after you fell in love with them, is even more difficult. My story starts after my emotionally damaged boyfriend cheated on me with his ex.

Now I know that sounds general and a lot of people have similar stories, but hear me out. It seems like your world has shifted like you did something wrong or you should have done something better. But understanding that people with BPD don’t always know who to trust really helped me understand that it’s not my fault.

Sometimes people will let you down. I looked up his symptoms because the little effort I showed studying how he felt helped me know how he feels. For me, that’s what most of my depression stemmed from. And understanding your symptoms and who you are, helps you overcome any mental disorder you might have.

I was afraid that I had somehow scared him away, that I wasn’t good enough. But sometimes you just have to breathe, take a step back, and view the whole situation not just a piece. So after you breathe look and listen can you fully understand how to forgive. And if you can’t forgive them, try forgiving yourself.

It sounds humble and insignificant but if you can do that, you’ll be able to forgive them down the road. This doesn’t mean you stick around and try and get back together with them oh, trust me I’ve tried, a lot. So just have hope in the little things. It gets better.
