Multiple Sclerosis affects the central nervous system and the optic nerve, causing vision problems. To know how the disease is affecting the body, one should be aware of all the types of autoimmune diseases. To begin, we will discuss the four types of Multiple Sclerosis.

Relapsing- remitting multiple sclerosis:

This is the most common type of sclerosis in which the symptoms respond to treatment and then resolve. It is an exacerbation of the disease which can last for 1-2 weeks.

Secondary- progressive multiple sclerosis:

This occurs in the initial stages of MS and over time the patients are diagnosed with secondary- progressive multiple sclerosis. In this condition, the problems caused by exacerbation don’t fully resolve during a remission.

Primary- progressive multiple sclerosis:

It progresses over time without remission. The symptoms are not improved.

Progressive- relapsing multiple sclerosis:

Intermittent episodes of remission are seen in this condition. The patients experience escalating symptoms as time progresses.

The above mentioned are the types of Multiple Sclerosis. Spreading awareness about this will help people to know the symptoms and treat them according to the severity of the disease.

How do we know that it is MS?

Vision problems: Double vision or unclear vision is a common symptom of multiple sclerosis. If this is not solved by using spectacles, you should consult a doctor.

Feeling of weakness or numbness: Numbness or weakness can result in paralysis, ranging from mild to severe. It is best to consult a physician if symptoms persist.

Lhermitte sign: A sensation of electrical charge traveling down the spine can be a symptom of serious multiple sclerosis.

Dizziness: If you frequently experience weakness or dizziness, it could be a symptom of MS. People with sclerosis may feel lightheaded when they stand up (VERTIGO).

Bladder problems: People with MS may experience frequent urination. This should not be ignored as it can be a serious sign of multiple health problems.

Seizures: Seizures can be a serious sign that the patient suffers from MS. If you experience seizures, it is extremely important to consult a specialist to determine the cause of the seizures.

Pseudo Bulbar Affect: Mood swings and changes in emotional health are common in MS.

Cognitive problems: About half of people affected by MS experience speech problems, memory loss, or may have trouble staying organized.

Bowel dysfunction and sexual dysfunction: Constipation and diarrhea are common symptoms. Sexual arousal is also affected as the problem is related to the central nervous system.

Apart from these symptoms, lack of coordination of arms and legs can be a sign of sclerosis. Slurred speech can make things even worse. Painful Contraction of certain muscles should not be ignored. Involuntary muscle function is another symptom added to the list. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should consult a doctor immediately.
