Having an abnormal pap (Papanicolaou test) is one of the scariest things when you have two different types of female cancers that run in your family. When I was first told at my 6th week checkup three years ago. I was scared and out of my mind. My Doctor had to do the LEAP procedure. But by the grace of God, it was negative.

I breathe a sigh of relief. But my worries came back two years ago when there was a discoloration in my girly area. I had to go through another procedure and again by the grace of God, it was negative.

Both of these experiences have made me very aware that everything could be lost in a second. As I have lost a grandmother due to vaginal cancer and my mother is a survivor of cervical cancer.

It is so important that females get checked every year and if you don’t feel right, it is okay to get a second opinion because my grandmother did not do that and accordingly she lost her life.

That’s why every time I noticed a change in my body I asked questions, because the only dumb question is a question that is never asked. If you don’t like an answer try somewhere else.

At the end of the day if something is wrong, the sooner it is treated the better quality of life you will have. Always make sure to have that one friend or family member who will not judge you no matter what you say and will give you the support you need.
