Chemical addiction is fatal if left untreated. It should be taken very seriously. It is progressive and it is basically a brain disease. It is an inherited predisposition, but it fully develops in a combination of genetic factors and environmental influences.

As the brain adapts to the increasing presence of the substance, the damage and inability to function (physically, mentally and spiritually) increases. Harm reduction without treatment is a joke. It should be treated covering all aspects. Stigma kills in many ways, informing yourself will get you on the right path.

Lack of parity from medical insurance companies leaves many people without the chance to get the proper help. Poorly trained, overworked and underpaid staff -kills addicts. They are simply not equipped with enough information to provide the necessary treatment, but sometimes even if they are knowledgeable, they don’t care.

Sober support works, every substance addict should look into that. All active addicts are dually diagnosed. Taking psychiatric medication prescribed is an absolute priority. After you manage to be clean, remain humble and help others. Believe it is possible to have a better life. Avoid active addicts, because they will only ruin your efforts. Maintain total abstinence and make sure you get therapy regularly. Keep busy in order to stay on the right tracks. Don’t get too hungry and get at least 30 minutes of sunlight daily.

Maintain a sense of humor, it will help you enjoy the bright side of life. Smile, sing, dance, exercise, read, pray and rest, give thanks, love and understand.
