I’ll paint you a picture with words. Follow carefully.
I’ve lived in a lot of foster homes, 23 to be exact. You can imagine what that was like. I was arrested few times for things I’ve never done, but no one cared. I was homeless for a combined total of 15 yrs. I have never met my biological father and have had 3 stepfathers who were also abusive drug addicted woman beaters.
I intentionally missed school to avoid being picked up by abusive (step)parents. I would get beaten every day just for fun. I would have to pack grocery bags at the local supermarket and give my mom’s boyfriend my earnings. If I wouldn’t do it, I would run the risk of me or my mom getting beat up. I was nine at the time. When I entered foster care my life changed. I wept and cried and hollered to be back in my momma’s arms, but then cries fell on deaf ears.
I now have 3 kids. My youngest son plays football, the middle one plays piano and my oldest daughter plays guitar in a band and runs track. Don’t let me get started on my accolades. The moral of the story is to keep things moving, be humble and stay positive and make moves that benefit your future not just your present.
