I am 34 years old and I am the proud mother of two children. I have the best husband ever, someone who is able to love and accept me during ALL of my highs and lows. Our daughter has down syndrome and she is truly sent from above. Her older sister is the best big sister any girl could ask for.

Before I was blessed with all that my life was… Well, I don’t know how to describe it other than saying I was living in hell within your very own skin. I have been down the long and lonely road of drugs, alcohol and depression many times. I resorted to them in hopes they would make me feel “normal” or at least to numb away the pain.

I didn’t know how I was supposed to cope with major mood swings, extreme highs and even more extreme lows. Every day, you didn’t really know who you were going to be. No matter if you are in a room full of people or just by yourself, it is easy to end up feeling overwhelmed, irritable, wide awake and then suddenly so tired you must take a nap.

It’s only been within the past year or so where I have been serious about my treatment of bipolar. You must come to terms this diagnosis doesn’t affect just you, but EVERYONE around you without even realizing it. I have been fortunate to have a family that chose to not forget about me, but let me do my own thing until I knew it was time to return home. They never turned their back on me because they knew I was in the middle of a bigger war within myself.

I am not saying it is an easy road, but with the right support system and treatments, anything is possible. So never give up hope!
