I was born as a collodion baby, which means I was very shiny. I also had deep fissures from head to toe. I was later diagnosed with Lamellar Ichthyosis. My skin condition causes mobility issues for infants by the skin being so tight it made it difficult to sit walk and crawl. It also causes issues with regulating heat in the body because we can’t sweat, so summers are really difficult. I can only have limited sun exposure as burning and heat stroke are very easy to suffer from.

During the cold winter months, I suffer from cracks at all places that vend. They bleed and hurt terribly. Sometimes they require stitches or develop into severe infections. It also causes so many issues just going into public as I am made fun of daily. I have been called burnt and dirty. With everyday ridicule along came the depression, self-doubt, and PTSD. I am who I am, and I’m working on not letting people get to me as much.

I hope that my story will help other people with the same condition cope easier because you are not alone. It is comforting to know that someone understands what you are going through.
