We recently received a question to our inbox asking if pain in your sides is normal. We wanted to do some research on this symptom to see if it was indeed normal.

IF YOU HAPPEN TO HAVE COPD, AND HAVE PAIN IN YOUR SIDE, THIS COULD VERY WELL BE ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR DIAPHRAGM.

The diaphragm is a muscle in the body that has a huge role in breathing. It expands and contracts to increase and decrease the space in your chest cavity. This helps your lungs take in and release air.

As it happens, there are a few things that can cause pain in the diaphragm. These can include Labored breathing, gasping for air, and hyperventilation.

When you have COPD, you often have trouble breathing correctly. When this happens, you put added strain on your diaphragm and could give it too much of a workout as it is attempting to help you breathe.

So, the answer to the question: Why do I feel a pain in my side is this. That pain is associated with increased stress and use of your diaphragm
