I’m here to tell you Diabetes has mercy on no one.

When I was 13 I developed type 1 diabetes. During that time I was playing middle school football and the doctor told me I would have to stop playing football for the rest of the season, but me being a Stubborn rebellious pre-teen I blew the advice off.

During the next 15 years, I treated my diabetes like a hobby – I would occasionally check my sugar levels and take my meds. The older I got the more I could feel my diabetes taking a physical toll on me.

By the time I was 22 I had developed kidney failure, congestive heart failure, hemorrhaging in both eyes, and have had 7 toes removed.

In all the cases, there was nothing the best doctors you could find could do. I was out of luck.

Today it’s a daily struggle to do even the most routine task. When they say diabetes is the Silent Killer that couldn’t be truer.
