In 2010 I was trying to lose weight because I have felt a difference in my weight and energy level.

I was always tired and sleepy, I was having back aches and the bottom of my feet were in such pain that I could not stand or get out of the bed for many days. I decided to lose weight so I decided to go on a fast diet where I drink liquids and ate salads for two weeks straight I was only eating meat once a day. I was losing weight but the burning in my feet my back aches and my energy level were still very bad.

One day I was coming out of the bank and I felt so tired I could barely stand up. I collapsed and woke up in the hospital where I stayed for 7 days I was told that I had type 2 diabetes.

At that time I didn’t know what diabetes was I didn’t know that my grandfather had diabetes and my mother had it. 8 years later my diabetes is manageable and I don’t have as much pain in my back or feet from the neuropathy. I decided to start an organization. My organization deals with three areas that being healthy eating lifestyles, homelessness, and minority incarceration rates.

Working and dedicating my time to the people who need me really helps me deal with my disease.
