On my daughters birthday in June 2015 I woke up nauseous and felt extremely dizzy and like my equilibrium was off. Since I have had sinus and ear problems all of my life I just thought I was getting sick and after a few days, everything would be ok.
But that is not what happened. The summer was filled with me feeling like I was on a boat and couldn’t get off. So tired all of the time, couldn’t function, couldn’t handle noises or lights, aura, dizziness, nausea and head and eye pain.
Many days I couldn’t get out of bed or go anywhere. The church would make me cry because the loudness and lights would make my symptoms so bad that I would literally be fallen over in the pew and wishing I could just go to the car.
I couldn’t drive and became easily overwhelmed and confused. My husband had to help me walk and my poor children had to deal with seeing their Mom sick like this.
I was sent to an Ear Nose and Throat doctor and had several tests that came back normal. So then I was sent to a Neurologist. After suffering from this for months I was told by the Neurologist that I had Vestibular Migraines.
My head hurt many times, at times very badly, but at other times it didn’t hurt at all. I had no idea it was caused by Migraines. After suffering this for over two years, getting a new doctor and Neurologist who also diagnosed me with Vestibular Migraines, I am doing some better but my life has forever been changed by these Migraines.
They are debilitating and extremely humbling. You don’t realize how much a migraine or other illness can completely take over your life and make you a different person.
Though I don’t believe I will ever be able to live the same way I use to, I am able to take this and have more compassion towards others who suffer. I am still in the process of learning my triggers and symptoms and how to live with them.
You can’t judge what someone is going through just by looking at them, some people suffer and you can’t see it.
I hope my story can help someone else who may be going through the same thing. There are several different types of Migraines and they can cause all sorts of symptoms.
