I was diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) about 2 years ago after I got into a car accident when I was racing at the race track in the town I live in. The emergency medical technician had to cut the doors off and so much more to get me out. I was racing in my step dad’s race car so that he could be at the hospital for my little sister’s birth. It was his first kid and he asked me if I would race for him, so I said yes.
It was not my first time doing it, and when the accident happened all I saw was a lot of fire and the EMTs trying to get me out of the car. Since then, I have never stepped foot or went by car or truck. Now I have 2 kids and I walk everywhere with them.

I would like to let people know that it’s not easy to have PTSD when you are only 24 years old and not being able to go a lot of places with your kids, like to car shows or the races. I try every day to get back into a car or a truck, but it doesn’t work out the best.
I want everyone to see that PTSD is not fun to live with and would like people to help out the ones with PTSD and other disorders like it, help them get their lives back. Most of my family is there for me, helping me out. Some are not, but I get through it by taking steps every day to try and get into a car or truck.

I take deep breaths and think of 3 things “I can hear, see, and feel” like my therapist told me to do. I keep trying every day to get to the point to where I can no longer be scared to get in a car or truck. I have gotten to the point right now to where I can sit in it as long as it’s not moving.
It takes time to get used to something again, but all you can do is to keep your head up and keep trying.
