When my son was two, he began to break out in acne. I thought this was normal, he was my son, and I had terrible acne so it must be genetic. My grandmother urged me to seek a solution because he was simply too young to have terrible acne. At the same time, my oldest was having behavior problems, so I took to the internet to find solutions. Deep in the comments of an ADD forum, I found post after post of parents blaming Red 40 for their child’s behavior issues. I researched more and found a list of artificial food dyes and their respective adverse effects.
Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 had rosacea listed as possible side effects. I cornered the daycare provider and asked her what he had for breakfast. Fruit loops, she said. It was like a lightbulb went off in my head, and I decided we would try eliminating all artificial food dyes from our diet.

That was six years ago. And my acne is gone. Ok, I get one small pimple exactly one day before my period each month. But the deep, subcutaneous acne that had plagued me my whole life disappeared. The scars on my face, and on my sons, remain, but I can say without a doubt that Red 40, Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 were the official cause of my acne.
I have submitted this information to the FDA and posted on Facebook, but I feel compelled to get this out to the world. Please share my story with the world. For over 25 years I tried every remedy you can think of. I was seen by an allergist, a dermatologist, a family doctor, all my friends, and relatives’ tips, you name it, I tried it. I tried every over the counter product, and some prescription ones, and believe me, I washed, and I rinsed, and I repeated. And I gave up.

Don’t give up.
I finally found the root of the problem, and I will not be silenced. Artificial food dyes caused my acne, and when I cut that out of my diet, my whole life changed. I wish you all the best!
