I have been a diabetic for several years. Over the years, I’ve tried to make changes that will help me along this journey. Even though I’ve made some progress, I still have a long way to go. Food has always been my best friend. I used it as a way of comfort when I’m sad, as a reward when I’m proud, a treat when I’m happy – a prize for everything.

Learning to live without some types of food I enjoyed eating or modifying other things made me feel like I was living a life full of limitations. I didn’t like it, so I would take a sweet here, one there. I thought it wouldn’t matter. I thought I was being careful about sugar intake. One day I was so tired. Beyond a normal tired. I just wanted to lay down. Every time I would try to get up, I would feel dizzy. I was just about to take a nap but something said check your glucose. It was 557. I was on my way to a diabetic coma.

I had gotten my knee injections which affect my numbers greatly. I didn’t watch what I was eating and on that day I had a real wake up call. I am doing a lot better and making better choices. I’ve cut out all pops and juices and only drink water. I check my glucose levels regularly and even taking jazzercise classes. On my way to live the best life possible!
