My name is Marcleta Smith and this is my story.

At the age of 9, I began having terrible headaches, nothing helped. I was only a child and being in pain scared me to death! No meds would work, Tylenol…no… ibuprofen…no….nothing! It was horrible! By the age of 10 I hit puberty and started my cycle – things got worst! The pain was unbelievable and as a child, I didn’t know what was going on. Light, sound, smells, anything made it unbearable. It would be so bad I would vomit, break out in hot and cold flashes, and come to the point to pass out!

As I got older the headaches got worse, so bad they would send me to the emergency room. They would give me a cocktail of shots of Dilaudid, Toredol, Phenagren, Benadryl, and a steroid. Yes, five shots, in the hips. Eventually, the migraines sent me to the emergency room so many times I’ve lost count.

I started seeing doctors for my migraines, and I’ve been on every medication you can think of. I was even prescribed blood pressure medication, antidepressants, seizure medication. Nothing helped. I’ve had numerous CT scans, MRIs, blood work, and there is no reason or explanation why I have them. After failed attempts with doctors, I was referred to a neurologist, I was his patient for almost two years, but ended up with him telling me there’s nothing he can do!

Now I am 29 years old still dealing with these migraines. Some days I can’t take care of my children, I can’t be in the heat, I can’t wear perfume above the chest area, can’t cook sometimes. It’s very hard to do normal everyday things. I wouldn’t wish this pain on my very own worst enemy! I’ve never in my life met anyone that can even begin to understand my hell! I have had over 5,000 shots and IVs and a headache every day for almost 21 years but I always keep hope that a miracle will happen!
